Rack power
C13 to C14 and C19 to C20 power cords
C13 to C14 and C19 to C20 power cords between PDU and equipment, configured to the connectors, conductor size, length and colour.
C13 and C14 connectors are rated 10 A and C19 and C20 16 A. A 16 A cord needs 1.5 mm² conductors, and a cord with one C13 and one C20 end is limited to the lower rating.
Colour coding by feed, A in one colour and B in another, makes a dual corded rack readable at a glance.
In Great Britain the duty to keep a cord safe sits in regulation 4(2) of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989. The Health and Safety Executive sets no fixed interval for testing it: frequency follows the risk, with no legal duty to label a tested cord or keep a record.
IEC 60320-1 covers appliance couplers up to 250 V and 16 A. It separates them by the temperature of the inlet pins: at most 70 °C for cold conditions, 120 °C for hot and 155 °C for very hot. Servers, switches and PDUs use the cold condition couplers, which is why German speakers call the lead a Kaltgerätekabel, a cold appliance cord.
