Fiber connectivity
MPO trunk cables
MPO trunk cables carry multi fiber links between patch panels, cassettes and transceivers, configured to the connector, fiber, polarity, pinning and end face your ports need.
A trunk carries 8 to 24 fibers between two MPO connectors. Transceivers and most cassettes have pinned ports, so most trunks are unpinned at both ends, and the polarity type has to match the method used across the link. Lengths are made to a plus tolerance, never shorter than ordered.
Installed permanently in a building in the EU, a trunk falls under the Construction Products Regulation, so each one is quoted with its Euroclass, declaration of performance and CE marking. In Great Britain the same regulation applies as assimilated law, EN 50575 is a designated standard and the declaration of performance is required; UKCA and CE marking are both accepted.
Choose each attribute below. A combination that cannot mate is refused with the reason; one that only works with particular equipment is accepted with a note you can check.
Configure
Trunk polarity types
| Type | Connectors at the two ends | Fiber path |
|---|---|---|
| Type A | Key up to key down | Straight: fiber 1 arrives at position 1 |
| Type B | Key up to key up | Reversed: fiber 1 arrives at position 12 |
| Type C | Key up to key down | Pairs flipped: fiber 1 arrives at position 2 |
The type follows from the polarity method used across the whole link, cassettes and cords at both ends included. Mixing methods puts transmit onto transmit.
